February 28, 2022

Spending quality time with your children is very important. However, when you’re stuck inside, whether it’s from rain, snow, or any other prohibitor, it can be hard to find ways to keep them occupied. Indoor activities for kids are essential for those moments.

Plan These Indoor Activities For Kids

These indoor activities for kids will give you peace of mind and a moment of quiet. You won’t have to worry about cleaning up a big mess and sometimes not even a large setup. Holly Springs Pediatrics is here to help with eight fun activities for the kids.

Hide and Seek

Indoor activities for kids have been developed and perfected for years. Hide and seek is a crowd favorite for children of all ages. This simple game keeps kids occupied for hours on end, without requiring any materials. Whether it is just you and your child, or multiple children, this is a great place to start. Decide what section of the house is useable and let them either be the hider or the seeker. From there, spend hours finding new places around the house to hide, all while not having to go outside. If there is a group of children playing, you even have a chance to let them play by themselves. This not only keeps them busy but also teaches them the importance of keeping to a game’s rules.

Fort Building

While it does take some materials to create, a fort is perfect for keeping the kids entertained inside. Provide your children with the appropriate pieces that are allowed to be used in a fort, so they do not end up using furniture that you are not okay with. You can either create the fort with your child or oversee that they are safely putting it together themselves.

Card Games

If you are looking for indoor activities for kids that keep them sitting, then card games are the solution. There are so many to choose from. Children of all ages can find a card game that suits them. From games such as UNO to a standard deck of cards, there are a variety of ways to use the cards.

Here, Today’s Parent provides a list of ten kid-friendly card games that only require a standard deck of cards to play.

Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt can keep kids busy for as long as you decide to make it. While this does require a bit more preparation, the result is knowing exactly where the kids are headed and how long they will be occupied. Set up different clues around the house with simple riddles that they must solve to find the next clue. Not only does it keep kids busy, but it also tests their ability to problem solve.

Drawing and Coloring

Drawing and coloring are easy ways to entertain a child. Whether you have a coloring book or pieces of blank paper, children can use their creativity to make their thoughts come to life. This is another activity that keeps kids busy, while also in their seats.

Musical Chairs

Musical chairs is always a fan favorite. This, however, does require multiple participants. Get some usable chairs from around the house and set them out in a circle. After you have selected the perfect age-appropriate music, let the children walk around the circle waiting for the music to stop. As it does, the children take a seat to discover who did not end up with a chair. While you’re controlling the music, you get to decide how long the rounds go on.

Simon Says

Simon Says is not only a great indoor game, but it also leads to the children listening to what you are telling them to do. Give them a few commands and let it get as silly as you want! The kids will love having to pay attention to whether you said Simon Says or not.

Baking and Decorating

If you have the time, baking and decorating is a great way to keep the kids busy inside. Find your child’s favorite treat recipe and give them the chance to make it with you. They will get to eat the final product, while also learning basic baking skills.
